“A pending dream that I have” – Arsenal man reveals club he dreams about playing for

Lucas Torreira already appears to be looking beyond his Arsenal career if his latest comments are anything to go by.
The Uruguay international was interviewed by Argentina’s Fox Sports about Boca Juniors and his love for the club and revealed it is a dream of his to pull on their famous blue-and-gold strip in the future, therefore perhaps putting his long-term future at the Gunners in doubt.
“Wearing Boca’s shirt is a wish and a pending dream that I have. This is how I feel, I say it at the age of 24 and being at one of the most important teams in the world like Arsenal”, Torreira started saying (via El Intransigente).
“Hopefully someday, depending on how things happen, because in football you never know. Hopefully I will be given that possibility because it is something I really want and it would be a privilege.”
The 24-year-old did later mention that he was fully focused on his time at the Emirates Stadium for now, however alluded to the fact that he did not want to leave the opportunity to play in Argentine before it was too late.
“Today my intention and my head are at Arsenal. I want to recover, go back to 100%. I have a very long contract with the club, until 2023 and it was very difficult for me to get here,” he added.
“I don’t want to reach Argentine football at an age in which it is very difficult to play because, from what I see, it’s very demanding. There are great teams and when they go to play against Boca, it’s always a final. You have to be physically and mentally prepared.”
With the Premier League about to get restarted, Arsenal will need to have Torreira back at his very best for them if Mikel Arteta’s side are able to achieve a European spot for next season, with qualification a market punters can look to get the best bet by using online-betting Italy.
Prior to the unprecedented break in the campaign, the South American midfielder had featured in 24 top-flight fixtures for the north Londoners, scoring one goal and providing one assist, however it was his defensive work that perhaps benefitted the Gunners the most.
In those outings, the 24-year-old managed to provide his team with an average of 1.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per game (WhoScored). There would be an argument that those numbers need to improve and starting against Manchester City in their opening game would be a good place for him to do so.
Furthermore, Arteta’s side have a number of challenging games still to play which could put their hunt for European football in the 2020/21 campaign in real jeopardy. Tricky fixtures against the likes of a resurgent Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion, Watford, Liverpool, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and a north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur all still remain with two matches against relegation-fighting outfits Aston Villa and Norwich City also still need to be completed.
The defensive midfielder may have already made 83 appearances for the Gunners following his £26m move from Sampdoria in 2018, although it remains to be seen just how many more he will make.
Arsenal will need Torreira to put his dream of playing for Boca Juniors to one side for now and focus on the job at hand in England for the foreseeable future. However, with him being 28-years-old by the conclusion of his current deal at the club, there might not be a lot they can do if the Argentine outfit do look to make a move for him then if he has not committed his future or been sold to another club.
