The Coronavirus pandemic has certainly played a major role in cancelling, postponing or introducing different formats to many different sporting events across the UK in 2020, therefore it will be interesting to see what happens in 2021, should the situation not allow for a sense of normality.

Indeed, one thing all sporting events have had in common because of the pandemic is that fans have not been allowed to attend events as they would normally, with some events allowing for very few spectators as trials being to take place to see what could happen.

Nonetheless, sport has started to make its return and there will be some hope that they will continue to recover at a steady pace throughout 2021. However, with the restrictions of being able to attend live sporting events, many have turned to get their fix via the use of online casinos. Thankfully, there is a guide to new casino offers 2021 for UK players available which will help punters make the most of their money.

Of course, the football was perhaps one of the hardest-hit sports within the country as many were left with a void from their routines as there was no action for a number of months during the business-end of the campaign – a section of a season that can provide some of the very best pieces of excitement; especially for Arsenal fans considering the success Mikel Arteta has managed to bring.

Indeed, whilst the Premier League and the Championship managed to get things back up-and-running, League One and League Two, as well as the leagues below them, had to curtail their season’s early and use different formats to try and conclude a fair method to conclude things for the year.

Horse racing within the UK made a quick return, with the Cheltenham Festival having been one of the last sporting events prior to the postponement of all sport, whereas Cricket took a little longer to make its return, as did both forms of Rugby – League and Union.

Darts continued to be played from the comfort of a player’s home, as they set up a video link to show the action to fans all across the world, whilst other sports such as Tennis, Cycling, Athletics and Snooker all made slow returns as well. For those that have looked at getting into a new sport, there is a new and interesting article about the history of chess which makes for an excellent read!

Of course, sport has become an essential part of life in the UK, with the vast majority of the population having followed at least one sport with a keen interest. Therefore, there will be hope that the 2021 calendar will not be as impacted as the 2020 schedule was, whilst there will also be some clinging on to the idea that they will be able to get back into the sporting venues to witness the activity and action being played out first-hand.

Whilst it is difficult to predict what the COVID-19 effect on sports and fans in 2021 will be, considering it seems to be making a rather concerning return to the island, there will be some optimism and hope that 2021 could be a year where at least something gets back to normal.
