Where should Arsenal be focusing in the January transfer window?

English Premier League Match Ball

Arsenal have made an excellent start to the Premier League season, with the club having been able to win a number of plaudits for what they have managed to achieve so far.

Of course, it is still very early in the season, but there is no denying that the Gunners sitting at the top of the table as we head into the 2022 FIFA World Cup is a pretty sight for some rather sore eyes to have formed at the Emirates Stadium over the last decade or more.

Indeed, those sore eyes may have been given the confidence to place a wager on Mikel Arteta’s side this season, too. With sports betting a popular pastime for many, especially those who like to play their favorite casino games when utilizing the list of sites that are known to be non UK casinos accepting UK players, there may be some that will have been left encouraged by the start made by Arsenal.

However, with what had happened in the Carabao Cup against Brighton & Hove Albion, perhaps the club needs to be looking at the January transfer window as a way of adding depth and quality to the squad, especially if they are to continue to mount a challenge.

A report by the Daily Mail recently highlighted this, and it provided some interesting points…

A back-up goalkeeper was among the first, however it was stressed that this should not be considered a priority. Indeed, Matt Turner is the current back-up, but Karl Hein would not have done himself any favours after the defeat to the Seagulls.

While the Gunners have a number of defenders on the books at the Emirates Stadium, the report highlighted that there may be some concern in the middle of the back line. Should anything happen to either William Saliba or Gabriel Magalhaes, then there could be some nervous moments.

Nonetheless, with the versatility of Ben White – who recently managed to earn a call-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup – and Takehiro Tomiyasu can both play there. However, if one of these are moved to play in the middle, then the right-back slot is identified as potentially the weakest part of the defence.

In midfield, the club is once again pretty strong in regard to the options available, although it has been argued that it needs more defensive-capable players. The creativity is all there to see, but additional protection for the defence is argued as a potential priority this winter.

Nonetheless, the biggest amount of focus this January should be spent on the attacking department, it has been claimed. Without Gabriel Martinelli or Gabriel Jesus, the club struggled in the final third. If the team loses both Brazilians or at least one of them, then they could be in trouble.

This would have a problem regarding their chances of winning the Premier League title, too. If they can add another proven goalscorer to the team this January, then perhaps they will add silverware to their title collection once and for all.
