Who will save Arsenal’s season?
“I am not a shy Arsenal fan, but I have not had the confidence to go to the pubs or bars to watch an Arsenal match since the beginning of this season.
The performance has been lacking from the players. I watch every Arsenal match with fear and faith, hoping they won’t lose”. It has been my story for the past five months.
The beginning of the 2020/2021 season is Arsenal’s worst start in 46 years; they had fourteen points from fourteen games. The last time they recorded this bad was the 1973/1974 season when they had twelve points in fourteen games. What next for Arsenal? Who will save them from these troubled waters?
There have been shortcomings on the players, the coach, and the board of the club. They need a savior for them to remain in the top ranks of the Premier League.

Who will save Arsenal?
Sometimes I sit down and ask myself some deep questions like, “Can Arsenal still secure a champions league spot? Can Arsenal win any trophy in this form?” They run through my mind every time, and I keep wondering.
No matter how good the players are, the coach still needs to contribute by playing the right players in the correct position at the right time. Arteta should also make the training not too tedious so that key players won’t sustain injury before matches.
Despite Arsenal’s bad form this season, they still have players who can turn their season around. A few of them are:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Aubameyang had a brace in their last game against Newcastle United. He is already coming back on form. He is not consistent yet, but he is on his way to the superb Aubameyang we know. If he starts scoring goals like the previous seasons, then Arsenal would become hot.
Arteta also needs to play Aubameyang in his right position (center forward); it will boost his self-confidence when he begins to make a difference in matches.
Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey is another key player that can make a difference in the team’s gameplay. He has missed out on most matches in the league due to injury, but the impacts he made when he played was significant.
This season, he has completed 249 passes from 280 attempts, what excellent stats from the 27-year-old defensive midfielder. In the last match, he had two interceptions; 9 ball recoveries, 95% pass success. If he continues in this form, he should take Arsenal to a high spot.
Emile Smith-Rowe
Another player who can help turn Arsenal’s season around is the 20-year-old midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe. He has made three assists in the last five appearances for Arsenal (no Arsenal player has made more this season).
Since he made his first start this season, only the Manchester United player, Bruno Fernandes (12), has created more open play chances than him (10).
Arsenal has not lost a single match; they won four and drew one. He has good chemistry with Bukayo Saka in each of his games.
Bernd Leno
Bernd Leno is Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper. The 28-year old has seven clean sheets in 19 games. He is the keeper with the third-most clean sheets behind Emiliano Martinez (8) and Ederson Moraes (9). He has made 44 saves this season in the Premier League with 140 ball recoveries. If Arsenal can begin to score more goals as Leno keeps clean sheets, they would be banging a large goal difference on the Premier League table.
Kieran Tierney
Tierney is Arsenal’s current left-back player. He has a goal and an assist this season. He has been instrumental to the team since the beginning of this season despite their form. The Scottish player has played in 17 matches, having created three big chances. He also has six clean sheets. Tierney should improve his crosses into the opponent box; it will generate more attempts in front of the goal.
These key players have shown some masterclass performance in specific matches this season. Some have not been consistent, though, but their consistencies would mean a lot to the team’s current form.
Arsenal has maintained a 4-2-3-1 style of play, with either Aubameyang or Lacazette playing the center forward position. The class is working for them, and they need to keep that to continue on the unbeaten record.
Leno has been hot in their last few games. He has some big saves and clearances apart from the clean sheets. Hopefully, if they sign Houssem Aouar, he will join Partey and Saka in the midfield. The trio would initiate clinical flows in the midfield.
Arsenal should be back on form with these little changes. I might now have the confidence to show at pubs or bars to boast of my club (smiles).
