Arsenal keen on two international strikers to replace misfit
Arsenal are thought to be considering a move for two of England’s internationals as they look to try and add firepower to their front line, whilst at the same time, looking to offload one of their current options.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun that was published on Tuesday morning, it has been claimed that the Gunners have identified Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as potential replacements for Alexandre Lacazette.
It is understood that the Frenchman’s contract will come to an end in the summer, and with no new deal currently on the table, the Londoners could be looking at January as an opportunity for them to try and make some money from a transfer, otherwise they will have to lose the player on a free transfer.
Mikel Arteta, though, is thought to only be prepared to sanction a winter exit if he is able to sign another striker in January that can be a back-up to current club captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The £46.5 million signing from Olympique Lyonnais arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in 2017 for a then-record fee, however he has since fallen out of favour at the club and is yet to start a Premier League match this season.
Despite his status within the squad, he is the only experienced alternative that Arsenal have to Aubameyang, which is why Arteta is keen to bring in a replacement before letting him go.
The Gunners spent approximately £150 million on new players in the summer, therefore it would be a surprise to see them spend big once again in January; something you would have to think both Calvert-Lewin and Watkins would require considering their value to their current clubs.
If Arsenal continue to keep their current form going and are able to climb up the table, then they may be able to convince one of them to join them in the summer instead. Many will be hoping that they do, as they will have already headed to hsportweddenschappen24.net to find the best odds of that happening.
Edu has been tasked with trying to find a new target man and is thought to be looking for a player who has Premier League experience and is not considered to be too old, thus fitting in with the policy that has been adopted at the Emirates Stadium in recent times.
Calvert-Lewin only recently signed a long-term deal to remain at Everton, whilst Watkins is also thought to be on a long contract, having only moved to Aston Villa just over a year or so ago.
However, it has been claimed that owner, Stan Kroenke, is prepared to back his manager with the funds needed to bring a new goalscorer to the club that will ultimately replace Aubameyang when the time comes.
