    Watch the Swansea game just now. They look not bad. I hope their good run continues. Michu a monsters in these couple of games.

    Dembele full, but they hungry….

    Moussa scores on his debut and (along with Ade) looks to be Spurs best player…. (Both came on as subs….)

    Norwich a bit unlucky to not get more than a point at the Lane after Huddlestone is set off. I wouldn’t mind Brad Friedel as OUR 2nd choice keeper….

    As you guys on here know, I am not one to go over the top, use vile words and become unduly overwrought. However, this transfer window has firmly confirmed what I have been saying for the past four years, “Wenger is FU#####ing crazy”.

    I am now officially turning to the “FRED” side. I am a very ambitious person and refuse to associate with things which do not share my values, Arsenal definitely being one of those.

    Arsenal is now being ranked alongside my ex wife. Civil relationship only.

      @Caribkid, Ouch….

      So, if the divorce is final, will you be flirting with others or (like
      others around here) keep stalking your ex and screaming warnings at her
      (would be) suitors? Luckily, the DAG doesn’t issue restraining orders…..

      Winky face (and a sigh), of course…. If only emotions could be regulated
      with a tap….

        @highburyterracesteve,

        I still have a very civil relationship with my ex, we both attend family functions, exchange Xmas gifts, etc, but “THE LOVE IS GONE”.

        :) :)

        So it is with Arsene, Kroenke and the Board. My love still remains for Arsenal as they gave me many years of joy and happiness. Looking forward to that relationship once again when these current fucktards are history.

    So here’s the thing…..

    From a management perspective, I kinda understand why we didn’t pay (inflated, last minute prices) for anybody new yesterday….

    Andrey (the Albatross) Arshavin.

    We couldn’t ship out (free) Chamakh nor (cheap) Squillaci but they don’t carry the weight of our record signing and highest paid player, Andrey the haircut. (Actually, Andrey’s latest hair style makes him look kinda on the thinner side….) We did a hair (cut) better with Bendtner and Park….

    We haven’t competed for silverware in years but it’s interesting to note how we dealt with recent threats to our annual trophy (4th place). In 2009, at the deadline (actually afterwards….) we signed Arshavin and successfully put off a challenge from Aston Villa. (In truth losing a 2 goal lead to Stoke City probably did them in far more than anything we did.) Last season, we loaned him out (after fans booed him and the manager in his final appearance vs ManU) and brought in hardworking (but not really very good) Yossi Benayoun in his stead. You could argue that it was the key move for the team down the stretch last season AND you could argue that we’ve taken a step BACK by failing to extend Yossi’s deal while accepting the Albatross back into the squad, or otherwise replacing him.

    Is Arsene lecturing us (his spoilt children)?….. “Well, you asked for the expensive toy, so now you must play with it.” It feels a bit that way and I’m not sure it increases my love (nor respect) for the manager.

    • highburyterracesteve 1 September, 2012 at 13:50 Log in to Reply

      @highburyterracesteve, Can somebody tell me
      why we didn’t cut our losses and sell Arshavin to Fulham? Instead we let
      ManU beat us on that account. Sorry Kiwi, but I can see why we didn’t
      want him (Berbatov) as a luxury sub on a (very) high salary…..

      Anyhow, watching Fulham getting pounded by West Ham and they look an
      absolute shambles w/o Dembele and Dempsey and other solid MFs,
      Etuhu and Murphy. Sidwell and Richardson can’t move the ball forward at
      all and Rodellega has no better workrate than Berbs (or Arsh)….

      That match is over (at HT) but I’m (almost) curious to see Spurs play
      Norwich in a bit. My hunch is that the ex Fullham guys (DemBoys?) will
      make Spurs an incredible squad vs teams that play to win but that
      they might struggle against bus parkers. Time will tell. Modric (IMO) is
      a big loss (VDV a smaller one) and while Moutinho wasn’t worth all that
      money, I’m not sure AVB is ready for nothing but speed and size. If,
      however, Spurs can solidify at the back via Lloris and Gallas and
      Vertonghen, they could be very, very interesting (and trouble for us).

    • Fred 1 September, 2012 at 17:31 Log in to Reply

      @highburyterracesteve,

      Because a 15 million buy did not pan out THEREFORE Wenger will never buy again.

      That argument is blown by the fact Wonga paid 15 million on Giroud –
      who has a significantly lower achievement trail.

      Wonga is a money grubbing lunatic. Don’t use Arshavin to excuse him.

      • highburyterracesteve 2 September, 2012 at 00:41 Log in to Reply

        @Fred, Giroud, according to some
        quick sources, was a 9.6 million pound initial fee….

        Also, I’m not blaming Arshavin in the least….Some buys don’t
        pan out….but (maybe) burnt once, shy twice or something.
        Plus, I think the wage structure is something that the
        manager is loathe to re-bugger…. Perhaps there’s doubt
        about the players available relative to their price/wage
        demand. Squillaci, another signing well hailed at the time,
        draws his pay week after week and can’t even find a loan….

        Fallibility isn’t usually acceptable in the job….
        Re-thinking policies, however, could be seen as a positive, by
        some, maybe….

  5. highburyterracesteve 1 September, 2012 at 12:15 Log in to Reply

    Like Raj, I have to agree that yesterday was the final blow in a depressing summer. Nice as the early business was, RVP was in kick in the teeth, Song (maybe) a punch in the gut and yesterday a final blow a bit lower…..and not the good kind….. Maybe if we were firing on all cylinders, like say, er, Swansea, (who, by the way, spent big, for them, to replace the players they lost). As such, it’s hard not to agree with many of the posters below….

    So what’s left to do if you can’t cut the cord and support one of the big money clubs? For starters, I’d start praying…. We need the team to come together quickly and perform to (and maybe above) their potential through some sort of miracle of “collective spirit.” We need our injured players to be “like new signings” and our available players to stay that way. Some key young players (Sneezy, Gibbs, Le Coq, Jenks, the Ox) need to step up in big, big ways and either become stars or push out some (questionable) players ahead of them. In the past I’ve said, “the planets need to line up.” For all these things to happen, seems just about as likely….

    If they did, I think there would be a chance to compete at a reasonable level against the super-squads, you know, the ones than make provisions for rainy days. Hope, I guess, is how you sell (season) tickets but it will take schemes greater than that (to fill seats, keep the pitchforks at bay, etc.) if things don’t fall into place (or the rains return). Perhaps by the time I’m in London (the festive period), things will be sunny and warm. The weather is less predictable these days, but an anorak will probably sneak into my luggage. Maybe (by that time) disgruntled supporters will buy me a pint to TAKE their tickets and use their seat….

    Which is fine by me….I’m as cheap as AW (or the board or Kronke, all of whom have increased their net worth considerably, by virtue of their association with Arsenal)…..

    Of course, I would absolutely love it if cheapness won out, if collective spirit found a triumphant moment (in the sun) and if Theo performed brilliantly AND stayed at Arsenal. But that almost feels tougher than planets lining up, more like finding a cure for death….

    Planets don’t line up and death is inevitable….I guess we accept the former and invent religion for the latter.

    My faith is feeling the strain…..

    (Big match tomorrow, btw, between us and another team with similar issues. No signings for them, late on, unless you count that guy–Sahin–on loan…..)

  6. Raj 1 September, 2012 at 11:19 Log in to Reply

    So, another transfer window slams shut with Gooners disappointed.

    When it comes to purely transfers, we broke even, or possibly even made a couple million. Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud (around £36m) for RVP and Song (around £38m). I’m happy with those replacements, but it’s exactly that – replacing. We needed to that as well as adding.

    The club can claim they’ve spent the money they made, but that doesn’t account for other income. Champions League money is what, £45m? Matchday revenue is £3m per game x at least 22 (19 PL, 3 CL). Then you’ve got the (albeit crap) sponsorship deals, the various real estate projects going on throughout Islington, merchandise sales, membership costs etc. etc.

    I’m guessing that outweighs the wage bill. Which means overall, we still have a profit for the entire year if you don’t solely look at transfers.

    As I’ve said before, this is ALL ON THE BOARD. We still have the right manager, and I firmly don’t believe he is to blame for the lack of spending. There is much more that goes on than meets the eye. He wasn’t reluctant to spend under the old regime (i.e. pre-Emirates), you know, when we won stuff.

    He was allowed to buy then and he was allowed to make a small loss. Nothing devastating, nothing that would send us under. We as a club used to strike the balance. In order to WIN, we did what was necessary, but didn’t go crazy. I understand the need to move to the new stadium – indeed, I used to struggle to get tickets for Highbury, whereas now I could go to every game easily.

    But Kroenke and certain members of the current board are in this to make money, and ONLY to make money. Wenger is still in this to win – you can see in most games he wants it a lot more than the players.

    I’m completely fed up of the people who run our club and it needs to stop. I’m fed up of being happy with 4th when in 99-01, 03 and 05, we deemed 2nd an EMBARRASSING FAILURE. That’s right, 2nd! Just a point or so off 1st! Yet now, 19 points off is an achievement!

    The problem is though, the only way to make an impact is to stop giving them money. But we’re a captive audience, they know football is a ‘sickness’ and we have to go and support the team. I’m going to try my best not to go to as many matches this year. Whether it happens or not is another thing entirely, because I (like countless others) can’t stay away. The other issue is, if a load of hardcore fans don’t buy tickets, those seats will still be filled by day-trippers who will actually give the club even more money, because they’ll spend £200 in The Armoury.

    *Sigh*…

    • Fred 1 September, 2012 at 17:24 Log in to Reply

      @Raj,

      Wenger is as culpable as the board. He is the number one problem.

      I can’t wait for the day we get rid of this man.

      • Raj 1 September, 2012 at 18:45 Log in to Reply

        @Fred, I think that’s a long way from the truth to be honest. But we’ll only find out the truth for sure once this regime changes. That will either be when we get this idiot Kroenke out of North London (oh no, wait, he’s never f*cking in North London he cares that much about his “investment”) or when Arsene retires/leaves.

  7. Fred 1 September, 2012 at 05:46 Log in to Reply

    It is days like this that makes Arsenal players NOT want to sign new contracts at the club. They see no ambition, no hope, no chance, no glamor, a divided fanbase and a mediocre salary (all because the Denilshits, Almunias, Diabys and Squillacis have to have their 60kpw).

    Let me be the first to TELL you guys (if you are silly not to have guessed this already), that Walcott will 100% NOT sign a new contract.
    Walcott and his agent are quite smart (and Wenger is as idiotic as ever), they know NOBODY in their right mind will give Walcott 100kpw. But they know if they can go for free, a club like Liverpool could offer that. By the way, Walcott was a Liverpool fan growing up, so I imagine that is his play.

    Either way, please no one on here should show any surprise when this plays out exactly like this. It is VERY predictable.

    2)

    Wilshere WILL RUN OUT HIS CONTRACT. You heard it here first. In Nov 2010, he signed a new contract, is contract could be expiring in 2014.

    So basically NEXT summer he could be in the EXACT same position as RvP. So do NOT be surprised when he asks to be traded. Direct all the anger towards Wenger and the board.

    They are literally forcing the players to give up on the club.

    Good luck with running your club that way.

        (for the millionth time).

        Arsenal will get NOTHING for the useless kid he has wasted
        SEVEN years on.

        Take that to the bank.

    Man U will rather sell Berbatov for cut price to Fulham than to us.
    Man City will rather sell De Jong for cheap to Milan than to us.
    Chelsea would rather Essien went to Madrid than to us.

    None of these teams will EVER give us a talented player. Only no hopers like Silvestre and Benayoun!

    Not to worry, at least we’ve still got Seb 60k/week Squillaci!

    Arsenal was ready to give him away on loan and pay half his salary but NO ONE in Europe would take him!

    The FAILURE continues.

    • Raj 1 September, 2012 at 10:23 Log in to Reply

      @Fred, I agree with your points on selling to rivals, but don’t call out Benayoun! Every Gooner I know still absolutely loves him because guess what, unlike the vast majority of our own players, he gave 110% EVERY SINGLE TIME. Best of luck to him on his return to Upton Park, hope he has a successful end to his career. We’ll never forget your efforts last year Yossi.

      • Fred 1 September, 2012 at 10:46 Log in to Reply

        @Raj,

        Regardless of how hard he worked … the fact of the matter
        remains that he was a mediocre talent. And that is why Chelsea
        let him go to us.

  9. Fred 1 September, 2012 at 05:29 Log in to Reply

    I’m now certain that Wenger and the board are certified imbeciles.

    At a time when they are looking for a new, mega sponsorship deal, they’ve sold their best players EASILY to rivals and have replaced all their stars with middle of the road plodders.

    Good luck getting HALF of what Emirates is willing to sponsor Arsenal.

    Criminal business sense.

    Instead of investing to make money, the club prefers to soak their fans and not spend.

    Figure this two extremes, Madrid buy Ronaldo for 70 million and make 200 million on his back for a cool profit WHILE exciting the fans AND making the team significantly better.

    OR the Arsenal model:
    Strip the club of ALL star players, depress the fans, force the players into a mindset that they have to leave to win anything, soak the fans with increased prices, KILL OFF ANY NEW SPONSORSHIP deals AND WIN NOTHING.

    On every single aspect and on every single front this club is run by imbeciles.

    Another lovely deadline day for Arsenal & Arsene. Well done. Way to do funk all. Obviously, the first two matches showed that we are ready to challenge for trophies just as we are. Arsenal are IRRELEVANT. Just another club fighting for a Euro spot, while taking its fans to the cleaners again. Well done.

        Arsenal have the HIGHEST ticket prices in Europe.
        The second largest stadium in the country.
        The HIGHEST matchday revenue in Europe. Fact.

        We have not looked like competing for SEVEN straight years.
        We have just lost very good players and a third is going to
        run his contract down. But we are making a profit ON TRANSFERS
        ALONE!!!!

        • Ty 1 September, 2012 at 06:14

          @Fred,what part of billionaire owner are you not getting And snone of your points adress any of mine.

        • Fred 1 September, 2012 at 10:53

          @Ty,

          The Arsenal Supporters Trust has reported we have 50 million
          in the bank at the close of THIS window!

          We made a PROFIT of 10 million on TRANSFERS ALONE this summer.
          We made a PROFIT of 40 million on TRANSFERS ALONE last
          summer.

          So in other words without adding a single cent from any other
          source, we have made a profit of 50 million just by SELLING
          our existing players!

          So why are you mentioning “Billionaire Owner”???
          Is Chelsea, Man City or Man U preventing us from using
          that 50 million???
          Are they preventing us from investing PROFIT we have made?

          Use your brain and stop worshipping Wenger’s feet.

        @Fred, No, Theo says so himself! Theo complains on a weekly basis that he should be a striker, and how the manager is completely wrong. After all, Theo is the experienced manager in this situation.
        How does he think he is capable of being a top PL striker? His first touch is crap, he can’t handle himself in the physical battle, he can’t hold the ball up, he can’t make decisions in pressure situations, he can’t cope when there are defenders in front of him. Exactly how does he think he can be a striker? Is it just because his crap shooting is similar to our other strikers crap shooting?
        He needs to look at Giroud’s performance against those 2 massive centre-halves and think to himself, “can I do that?”. The answer is no, so shut up Theo. Concentrate on actually being good at your current job before you complain about not getting a promotion.

    Here’s yer madness (from the Telegraph)

    Wenger said that he might still spend today if a “top, top player” became available, and has made inquiries about Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, although the approach is likely to be rebuffed, but he also stressed that he regarded the squad as strong enough to challenge for major trophies.
    It is an assessment that is likely to frustrate many Arsenal fans, especially as Wenger acknowledged that the club did have money available in their transfer budget.

    “I am relaxed,” said Wenger. “We have enough players, that is for sure, but you want always to improve your squad. We have resources available so if it is not happening now it will happen in December. But we believe strongly that we have the quality in our squad to do very well.
