Introducing the Arsenal 125th Anniversary Away Kit

The Arsenal away shirt for the 2011-12 season, which is navy and turquoise blue in colour, features a bespoke crest that marks the club’s 125th anniversary year – and looks forward to the club’s next chapter as the most environmentally-friendly kit Nike has ever produced.

Founded in Woolwich in 1886 and called The Royal Arsenal, the celebratory crest design combines the graphic of 15 laurel leaves to represent each of founding fathers and 15 oak leaves to mark the location of its foundation in a bold white print and carries the anniversary dates of 1886 and 2011 on the heart of the shirt.

Underneath the celebratory crest sits the word ‘FORWARD’ as a tribute to the club’s first motto.

The front of the new away shirt is divided into two halves, one in navy blue and one in turquoise blue, inspired by the away kits worn by Arsenal teams from the past. The diagonal line represents the gnomon, the pointer which casts the shadow on a sundial, inspired by the original Dial Square sundial on the site of the Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich, where the Club was first conceived in 1886.

The back of the shirt is entirely navy blue, while one sleeve is navy blue and the other turquoise blue, with a stripe in three parts on each to once more represent the Dial Square sundial.

The away shorts are navy blue whilst the away socks are also navy blue with the year of Arsenal’s foundation, 1886, printed in white on the back of each calf.

While the history and tradition of the club is present in the shirt design, the new away kit is made from Nike’s ground-breaking recycled polyester – which for the first time includes both the shirt and shorts.

Each complete kit is made up of up to thirteen reclaimed plastic water bottles. This new manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester and saves nearly 100 million plastic water bottles from being dumped at landfill sites.

On the back of the shirt below the neck reads ‘’Arsenal’, while inside the front, on the back of the crest, is a graphic that reads ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’, (‘Victory Through Harmony’), Arsenal’s Latin motto, which was previously featured on earlier versions of their club crest between 1949 and 2002.

The light weight kits (13% lighter than previous versions) actively regulate the players’ body temperatures on the pitch to keep them dry and cool at all times through use of Nike Dri-FIT technology. This technology draws sweat away from the player’s body through the material where it can evaporate.

Temperature regulation is helped by ventilation zones, consisting of hundreds of tiny laser cut holes from the under arms to the waistband, allowing air to circulate to keep players dry, cool and comfortable.

For the first time the club crest on the front of the shirt is heat transferred, making it even lighter and crucially allowing this area to now be ventilated as well.

The shirt has a new aerodynamic fit this season, now slimmer and more athletic, providing 17% more stretch than the Arsenal shirt of two years ago. While a bonded hem offers a streamlined look that reduces irritation caused by chafing.

To compliment the new match day kit Nike has launched a unique Arsenal line of training and lifestyle clothing for both players and fans to wear on and off the pitch.

The kit and extended line is available for pre-order from June 28 and will be available in stores from July 28. For more information visit nikefootball.com and nikemedia.com for shirt and player images.

Nike Recycled Process:
As part of the Nike Considered Design program, Nike uses discarded water bottles destined for landfill sites in Japan and Taiwan where they can take up to 500 years to decompose. The bottles are placed in a large washing machine to clean them and get rid of labels before they are chopped into tiny flakes and melted down into a yarn that is ultimately spun to make the fabric for the jerseys. This ensures the kits remain the most eco-friendly ever by reducing energy consumption by up to 30%compared to manufacturing traditional polyester, and saving nearly 100 million plastic water bottles from being dumped at landfill sites.

    wut up, folk? just back from holiday. maybe i’m an old-ass scrooge but i’d much rather go to work and make money than go on vacation. instead, i just blew a shit-ton of money and have absolutely nothing to show for it. at least the kids had fun. europe is untypically cold right now. stay out of greece.

    clearly, i wasn’t the only one on holiday as the folks responsible for arsenal transfers seem to still be on vacation. wtf? why haven’t we bought anyone? what i do know, as fred alluded to, is the team needs to be set when pre-season starts. that includes fabregas and if barca want him, they need to buy him before pre-season starts or arsenal need to make him unavailable. the team is built around cesc and losing him in the middle of our preparations would be devastating.

    looks like bendtner and denilson have failed to find new clubs. douche bags talked all that noise about how much they needed to leave and now they’re stuck. thanks to their big mouths, those two are not a part of this team and their every fuck-up will be highly scrutinized by their peers. it’s going to be tough for them to be accepted back into the fold.

    before i left, i theorized that arsenal needed to change atleast one of 2 things; consistent leadership in our defensive third and a change in tactics. perhaps vermaelen can reclaim his place in the side and provide leadership but he hasn’t played much football over the past year. i believe the team is talented enough; very comparable to the ’95 ajax side. the difference is the ’95 ajax side had blind and rijkaard in the defensive third where arsenal have no steady leadership in the back.

    as for tactics, i mentioned that i didn’t believe arsenal could win the league with fabregas. all of our midfield and forward players, including fabregas, are playing out of position to accommodate cesc. we don’t even have a #9 for crying out loud. since fabregas has assumed duties of the main man in midfield, arsenal have gone from a strong, dominant team that always competes and finishes first or second to a soft touch that has continually failed to compete or finish any higher than third.

    in fairness to cesc, his two predecessors in that position are two of the most complete midfield players i’ve ever seen in vieira and petit. likewise, cesc was only 17 when he took over the role. despite fabregas’ obvious world class talent, the bpl seems to require midfield players with a different skill set from fab’s to win it’s trophy. lastly, winning the league requires a captain with a strong desire to win the league. cesc’s desire seems to be to winning in spain. my theory regarding cesc could be wrong but it’s what i believe. we’ll see what arsenal does.

      @joshuad,

      Bollocks about Fabregas. He just needs decent players alongside him to win, something Wenger has refused to do for the last six years.

      I can’t believe the shit he has just come out with about keeping his cards close to his chest and everyone waiting for the big transfer to kick it all off. Every day longer he waits, Cesc and Nasri become more frustrated, and closer to the exit door.

      Hello Ivan?

    • Fred 2 July, 2011 at 14:51 Log in to Reply

      @joshuad,

      Again, you keep repeating the meme that Fabregas is not a fit AM for the EPL.

      Utter, utter, utter bollocks!

      So you are not blaming Fabregas for not having a true Number 9??? How on EARTH is that Fabregas’ fault??? Freaking incredible!

      Fabregas has the MOST assists of ANYBODY (including Xavi/Iniesta) in the whole of Europe over the last five years!

      He has BY FAR the most assists in the EPL!!! No one comes even remotely close!

      Instead, you ridiculously blame him for being played beside UTTER GARBAGE players like Song, Denilshit, Diaby and all other sorts of gorrilla players.

      The only midfield player he has played with who was remotely competent was Flamini! Every other one was a complete or borderline donkey.

      Which REAL forward has Fabregas ever had to play with? Name just ONE please!

      That buffoon Adebayor?? Or that one legged horse Persie? Or should we start talking about the disasters like Chamakh, Bendy, Vela and the other craven fools?

      Apart from his top assist in Europe status, France Football (which gives the Ballon D’Or) ranked him last summer as the NUMBER ONE in Europe with regards to 1) number of successful forward short passes, 2) number of successful forward long passes in the air (Xavi beats him for long passes on ground) PER GAME.

      The facts show that Fabregas has been a barnstorming success in the EPL … the ONLY player holding Arsenal in the top four. The current team is so garbage it would NOT make the top four without him YET you blame him for Arsenal not winning the league. Just fucking incredible.

      Maybe you should start pointing at the egotistical fool who is managing the team and filling it with junk players.

      I can’t wait for Fabregas to leave so that this “glorious” team can finally WIN THE LEAGUE!!!! Only Fabregas getting in their way!

    • Fred 2 July, 2011 at 14:56 Log in to Reply

      @joshuad,

      And please DONT compare this team in any way, shape or form to Ajax 95.

      I have first hand experience with Ajax 95 – attended the home games at the old stadium from 92 to 97.

      Please dont try to sully the Ajax 95 team’s name and memory with that ridiculous comparison. Some youngster who wasn’t around in the 90s might now start thinking that the Ajax team was some BS team filled with clowns and managed by a tactical retard.

    Denilson has said he is gonna stay.

    Rosicky is gonna stay as well.

    Eboue is gonna stay too.

    Same with Squillaci, Diaby and even the mouthy Bendtner.

    Almunia will also stay on as number 3 goalkeeper.

    Every single utterly useless player is gonna stay!

    Gibbs replaces Clichy.
    Lansbury replaces Fabregas.
    Frimpong replaces Nasri.

    We will buy NOBODY this summer. And sell just three – Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy.

    • stag133 1 July, 2011 at 17:52 Log in to Reply

      @Fred, I think we’ll sell Cesc Nasri and Clichy…
      but I am sure we’re gonna by Gervinho… and probably some other kid for like 10 Million… we’ll make massive profits on the sales, and it will be a new era of kids at Arsenal.

      and you won’t be a REAL fan… because you’ll complain!

      Just type: CESC IS GOING NOWHERE!
      LOL

      @Fred,
      I agree it’s bad, very bad. But Frimpong and Lansbury starting in MF. Should those two leave, the starting MF would most likely be (I think) Jack, Ramsey, and Song. But still… we’re screwed no matter what we do because we won’t do anything.

    I have less hope for Arsenal this season than I ever have before, and yet in a strange way I’m very anxious for it to start b/c part of me wants to see just how catastrophic it will be. And along with that there’s hope that catastrophe will maybe, maybe lead to genuine changes. I’m not ‘excited’ for the season to start b/c I only get that way when I think it will be a good season. That’s why I’m merely ‘anxious’. I want to see how it will play out, but I have no hopes or expectations. Usually summers are when on-the-fence people (like I was for the longest time) are tricked back into the fold by Wenger. But this summer is different. Not only is he not tricking fans back into belief, he actually seems to be reinforcing their disbelief in him.

    • Fred 1 July, 2011 at 15:07 Log in to Reply

      @ChicagoGooner,

      I wonder where all the AKBs are? Completely dissappeared off the face of the earth all of a sudden.

      Remember the summer Henry left and everyone was a bit anxious?

      In hindsight those were AWESOME times. We had Hleb/Rosicky/Fabregas. We had 3 DMs – not including the Deni/Diaby.

      Now, we might have NO legit AMs at all. No real midfield to speak of. No defense. A BS attack.

      The upcoming train crash will be epic.

  4. Fred 1 July, 2011 at 12:00 Log in to Reply

    When I look at Man U’s squad, I just go thoroughly envious.

    They literally have FIVE solid players for every two positions!!

    At wingback they have: Fabio, Rafael, Evra, O’Shea, Brown.
    Not missing Gary Neville one bit.

    At centerback they have Ferdinand, Vidic, Smaillings, Jones, Evans.
    They are LOCKED AND LOADED.

    In attack they have got, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Owen, Macheda, Welbeck, Obertan.
    Again, LOCKED AND LOADED.

    In midfield, they already have their DMs set, Carrick, Fletcher, their wings are full. Giggs is actually the FIFTH winger. So when he retires, they won’t miss a bit. Because they have already snagged Ashley Young NOW!!

    The only thing they are missing now is a true AM – other than Anderson. But they have been winning for years without one – so that is just a luxury really.

    Notice how their team is set BEFORE pre-season starts. So EVERYBODY will go through the full pre-season TOGETHER without disruption.

    Notice how they SOLVE future problems (retirements of key players) by BUYING NOW! Hence they already have Ferdinand and Giggs’ departure covered.
    Wenger FC on the other hand REFUSES to solve problems from the past let alone looking ahead!

    Three solid buys – no sweat, no fuss. NOBODY wants to leave Man U. Nobody wants to hold Man U hostage for 20k extra.

    Needless to say there is absolutely NO CHANCE we will ever finish above them in the near or medium term future. And Wenger FC absolutely does NOT deserve to either.

    ——————————————————–
    Why won’t Wenger spare us the trouble and get lost ….

    • stag133 1 July, 2011 at 14:10 Log in to Reply

      @Fred, yes. all true about ManU, Fred… but they don’t do it legitimately… they buy success!
      they are in massive debt… and its all going to come crashing down on them, and before you know it, they’ll be relegated!
      (thats the drivel I’ve heard for how many years now? 5 or 6?)

    really? I mean… why not? you’ve done feck all … and your getting paid handsomely… who’s going to pay you to do next to nothing like Arsenal do?
    I have to say I liked the signing of Rosicky when it happened… bugt he has 4 GOALS in the past 3 SEASONS combined.
    1 goal in the FA Cup last year, thats all folks.

    He has been an absolute BUST…
    but we’ll keep him for another season… just what we need. :skeleton:

      @stag133,

      That is utterly, utterly ridiculous.

      Selling him for FREE will save the club 60 to 70 k per week alone! That would more than COVER the 20 k per week that Nasri wants to keep him in this sinking ship.

      No body has done LESS than Rosicky for his club (any club) in the last 10 years. OK, other than Owen Hargreaves.

    Not the time to panic. July 1st.
    have brought in Jenkinson. just a great shrewd buy. glad he’s on board.
    Vermaelen is back, so that sures up the defense.
    Clichy looks like he’ll be sold for a whopping 7 Million to a team that is better than us… 3rd place City… and who overpays for everyone. But we have Gibbs there, so we are all set… thats a major upgrade.

    Koosh and Squill have the experience of last year … so that means they have improved…

    We still have no No.1 keeper in the squad, but Sneezy looked decent at times, and Fabianski and Almunia still there, so we are DEEP at that position, no real need to do anything.

    The likes of Denilson and Bendtner publicly WANT out, but it looks like Wenger might have talked them into staying… just great depth there…

    so, all in all…. with us being so close last year… in 4 competitions until like March… we just really need to improve on the mental toughness down the stretch, and we’ll be WINNERS… Champions of something.

    Keep the faith, Kiss the crest, or some shit like that. :skeleton:

    I really hate to say it, but Arsene has not only lost the plot but has also lost his mind.

    “It is a transfer period. Everybody has their cards in [their] hands, hoping for the big transfer. There is nothing moving yet. The period will me more active at the end of July when we will need to really strengthen the team.” AW on French TV.

    What am I not seeing here?

    Manu won EPL, reached finals of CL, lost an aging Scholes and VDS. Signed De Gea, Jones and Young by end of june and welcomes back Wellbeck and Macheda.

    Obviously Manu has played some of their cards already.

    Arsenal finished 4th in EPL, lost to Birmingham in CC, will lose at least 1 if not more of Clichy, Fabregas and Nasri, signed 19 year old Jenkinson with limited Championship League experience by end of June. Also have dead weight in Denilson, Bendtner, Rosicky and Almunia who have little or no market value.

    After the fiasco of last season you would believe he would understand what needs to be done to even ensure we make the CL again this season. Instead he has on his rose tinted glasses and accounting cap on.

    It’s just so fricking frustrating.

      @stag133,

      Manchester City are confident that the Arsenal left-back Gaël Clichy will become their first signing of the summer, but they have distanced themselves from reports that they are also trying to persuade Arsenal into a £20m deal for Samir Nasri.

      The two clubs have agreed a £7m fee for Clichy and the player is expected to arrive in Manchester early next week. But there have been no high-level talks about Nasri’s potential availability and none are planned.

      Nasri, who has been prominently linked with a move to Manchester United, has one year left on his contract and City are monitoring him as a possible back-up option for later in the summer. However, their interest has never gone beyond that point and City are bemused by reports they have been closing in on a deal with the player’s agent and club.

      City will be relieved to conclude the deal for Clichy, who was the subject of a £5m bid from Liverpool last week, after a difficult start to their summer transfer business that saw them concede defeat to Barcelona in the signing of Udinese’s Chile forward Alexis Sánchez.

      Four days before pre-season starts and not ONE person bought or sold. Essentially the EXACT SAME fucking team from last season.

      So this news is great news. At least some are being sold.

      Denilson and Almunia will still be here come September.

    Well, I remember being at an Arsenal away match many years ago… and we were wearing BLUE away kits.
    The chant went up from the Arsenal Away supporters… “Come on you Yelloooooooow. Come on youuuu Yellow”
    ?!?!

    I think the “traditionalist” supporters… you know the REAL supporters from way back… the ones that grew up across the street from Highbury…. they’ll be dissapointed with a blue away shirt, because its not the traditional Yellow away color.

    Shirt looks OK to me.
    I wouldn’t buy it… I don’t really fancy it.
    but whatever.
    Should be multi-colored with the British Pound “L” symbol on its center!
