Introducing the new Arsenal away kit – and we like it!

I am a purist. I do tend to prefer and red and white for home and yellow and blue for my kits. But I also understand that this a new era and each team wants to have something different in terms of its kit. Arsenal are no different. And this season it looks like Nike and Arsenal have really come out with something different in the this season’s new Away kit.
Nike has always been an innovator both in it’s product design and manufacturing and these new kits are a prime example of both. While I was a little reticent at first I’ve grown to like these new designs. We do need to talk to someone about the ‘pink’ goal keeper kit. We hope you enjoy this preview.
———————————————-
ARSENAL will wear an adventurous new away kit this season and its eye-catching design marks a new direction for Arsenal – it combines a rich purple base with black hoops.
Taking visual inspiration from high street fashion, the kit is on-trend and by using such a regal colour in the year of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, it also honours the Club’s historical royal links.
The Gunners were known as “Royal Arsenal” in the 1890s having been formed at the Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich, South London. Originally bearing the name “Dial Square” after one of the factory’s workshops, the founding fathers decided to merge the name of a pub they met in – Royal Oak – with their place of work.
The red trim on the shirt cuffs compliment the purple body and pay homage to the home kits that are so identifiable with the Club, whilst the differing hoop patterns on the body and the sleeves of the shirt give it a modern twist.
The inner back neck graphic takes the form of the club’s motto, ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’, the Latin for ‘Victory Through Harmony’. Meanwhile, the outer back neck graphic pays tribute to legendry manager Herbert Chapman’s innovative WM formation.
The purple and black hooped socks, bearing one red hoop each, again pay tribute to Chapman’s legacy, as it was he who introduced hooped socks – he reasoned that they would make it easier for his players to pick one another out on the pitch.
Whilst the kit combines modern sport and youth style to give the club a striking new look, Nike’s innovations give the team the most technologically advanced kit to aid athlete comfort and performance.
The new home kit is made from Nike’s ground-breaking recycled polyester, making it Nike’s most environmentally friendly kit ever produced. Each kit (shirt and shorts) is made using up to thirteen recycled plastic water bottles and this innovative manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester. Since 2010 Nike has used an estimated 1115 million recycled plastic bottles to create its high performance kits.
The kits are made out of 23% lighter fabric with 20% stronger knit structure than Nike’s previous kits and feature Nike Dri-FIT technology to wick moisture away from athletes to help keep them cool and dry on-pitch.
Kits have bonded re-enforced T-bar junctions that support critical seams on the shirt and shorts and inner welded seams with a flat finish construction to improve comfort and performance. Temperature regulation is helped by ventilation zones, consisting of a series of tiny laser cut holes from the under arms to the waistband, allowing air to circulate and keep players comfortable.
Nike Pro Combat base-layers are used by athletes to compliment playing kits, further enhancing comfort and increasing protection from injury. Meanwhile both fans and players can enjoy Nike’s Arsenal Sportswear collection off the pitch, a collection inspired by the Club’s heritage.
The kit and extended line is available for pre-order from www.arsenaldirect.com and will be available in stores soon.

What a ugly kit! Nike is sooo crap, I cannot wait for Adidas to reclaim their rightful place as our kit manufacturer. I think our best kits of the past were Adidas.
Presently Adidas are making the best kits anyway but I will be particularly happy that Nike will not be giving us a kit that is inferior to Man Us every year and paying us far less money for the privilege.

…one of the most honest interviews with Wenger I’ve ever seen.
The kits don’t bother me…..they’re just another round in the circus that football has become. At least the dinosaur won’t have to wear the purple so as to look like Barney. Likewise, didn’t I already see Sneezy in pink last season? My thought was that was why he was going for the Molly Ringwald hair. These are obscure American references and I’d link to photos of them if it wouldn’t prevent my post from posting….
In other rings of the circus, John Terry is “not guilty,” and Barca want both TV5 and LK6 to replace Sarah Jessica Parker, er, Carlos Puyol, who actually turns 45 this year and is needed for Sex in the City III….. And they’re offering RVP’s little buddy, Ib Afellay. Personally, he seemed a bright spot for the Dutch at the Euros, given that, you know, at the end of a run he might actually pass the ball rather than shoot. Since nobody else on that team considered such ideas they all looked very confused….In truth he looked a lesser version of the OX, but maybe we could scare him into hugging the touchline if Theo were to find a greener pasture. the end I guess it’s not up to me…..gotta ask RVP, or something….
First pre-season 1/2 matches tomorrow…..
Arteta3sheds…..I AM planning on coming through London in mid Sept and early Dec….maybe looking for tix to home matches vs Southhampton (Sept) and Swansea (Dec) and midweek CL matches if they’re drawn to be in London. I’ve misplaced (lost) the e-mail address you gave me but I’ll put mine on the GDC, where links are allowed….Hey, maybe I should put up the photos mentioned above…..
@HighburyTerraceSteve, I haven’t seen anything on Barca wanting Vermaelen and/or Koscielny.
Is that a joke, or where is that from?
I’d love to sell them Koscielny!! but of course, we already missed out on Vertonghen to replace him.
We keep buying forwards, and not selling any… so maybe Wenger is going with a 3-6-1.
Jenkinson – Vermaelen – Santos
The back 3… all like to bomb forward… so in essence, we can quickly transform into a 0-9-1 on the break.
The preseason games begin… tomorrow.
We haven’t really solved anything in terms of RVP, a DM, or any defender.
We haven’t offloaded Vela, Bendtner, Chamakh, Park, Theo, …
I know, I know… we want to wait until at least a week before the new season starts… that way anyone
we bring in… has no chance of getting settled!
We already heard from our Scout, the other GG – Gilles Grimandi, that we DID buy Giroud as a “replacement” for RVP.
I think its like 35 days until the season starts!
:)
soooooooooo looking forward to it…. purple kits, no star players, no defense allowed, no statement of intent from the club…
Once again, Arsenal revive that Bananarama hit: “Cruel Summer”.
@stag133, I mostly think that you are a notorious nagger but you are 100% right. The training camp weeks are essential to a Team espeacily if you want to compete if noting is done or the business finished it will hurt the teams start of tghe campain
@Ty, I am a notorious nagger. and I am right as well. Neither of them are mutually exclusive clubs!
At least if we did the business part early enough… whether its selling RVP or whatever, we would have a month to gel as a team.
Never understood why we wait until the last second.
But Wenger will have you believe that these things take time… it doesn’t happen overnight. (transfers)
Apparently other teams have no problem, but Arsenal does.
@HighburyTerraceSteve, Steve mail me arfa3sheds at gmail .com. Once i get your mail I will email you from an email add that I actually use. Should be easy to get tickets for the games. The absence of the Stag-like support should leave plenty of space for us. I will order a couple of Red Level tickets when I return from holiday. Looking forward to meeting .
@arteta4MVP, by Stag-like support, you mean a lack of SUCKERS, who will go to the matches and pay the clubs crazy prices, no matter what shit they put out there?
yes…
those include a lot of LIFE-LONG supporters.
They aren’t giving up their season tickets… because they will outlast the current regime.
They will just sell off, and give away their tickets… because they aren’t fools.
There is a lot of good football in London… beautiful old stadiums (QPR, Fulham)…
And lots of lower division teams in quirky cool little stadia as well.
Go see some football. Just don’t spend your hard earned cash on the Emirates Mafia.
Sigh, Sigh, Sigh
Spurs seems to be addressing their needs with Vertonghen, Siguurdson and the capture of Adebayor on a permanent. All being done in a timely manner.
Manure and Chel$ki the same. Just hope we don’t wait too long to address ours. Then again, if we did our business in a timely manner that would be surprising based on the experience of the last few years.
One can still hope and wish, Can’t they?
@Caribkid, Sorry to bury your post there…..
AND Spurs got themselves a new manager—maybe one with a bigger ego (or is it
“vision”) than our own…..
I’m in agreement about our need for a creative AM, esp. with Wilshere already
promised to be out for at least a while, and Rosicky and Arteta last seen dealing
with at least medium serious injuries. Ramsey, I think, should be running the MF
of a team at a much lower level…. And Alex Song? Did he sign a new contract or
is he to 2013 as RVP and Theo were to 2012 and Nasri/Clichy were to 2011….
Anyways, big trouble, fo’ sho,’ but I think there are some additional shoes to
drop in regards to our “rivals”…..Can Spurs keep Modric? Can United keep Nani?
Will the FA step in and give Terry a Suarez style ban? Can Malouda and Lampard
and Torres even catch a glimpse of their past form? (Ramires & Modric would be
an interesting pairing in Chelsea’s MF, feeding the likes of Hazard and Hulk….)
“Football” to be played tomorrow, so it’ll be here sooner than later…..
@HighburyTerraceSteve, Spurs doing some good business, in my humble opinion…
and United are doing some as well… with Leighton Baines rumored to be heading there… (very nice pick-up, if they get him)…
and a Brazilian 19 year old that is a hot commodity.
Why are these teams not waiting until the last week before the season starts? Don’t they view us as the MODEL?
Spurs are going to sell Modric. and get a really big price.
The question in my mind, is do they use that money to buy Moutinho? (or will United pounce there?)
And I just read that Chelsea picked up like… 45 MILL GBP for winning the CL.
They could buy Hulk, Spidey, and Batman with that money.
Oh man I have seen my fair share of awful kits but thats right up there. I mean the goalies will cry themselfs to sleep every away game. The striped kits are tolarable but just barely.
The good old invinceble red/white kits will be the nonplusultra.
@Ty, have to agree… I might seek a transfer if I was a keeper at Arsenal… playing in front of that shite defense, AND a HOT PINK KIT??
what the hell were the club thinking?
Love the shorts. Socks reminds me of prison garb and the horizontal stripes will make Santos and Arshavin look even more plump.
Love the training shirt though.
WOW.
massive signings for PSG… they are trying to become a force in the CL, though… they might need to win Ligue 1 first!
As noted below, doesn’t seem like they are worried too much about the Financial Fair Play non-sense… neither is Chelsea, or City… or Barcelona, or Madrid, or Anzi… because its just not going to be an issue.
Meanwhile, Fox Soccer are showing the Arsenal 5 v Totteringham 2 match.
This was the turning point in our season (and Spurtz!)…
2 excellently taken goals by Theo… and though we looked shaky at the back for much of the match, we were pretty damned good going forward in the 2nd half.
This was our “match of the season”.
@stag133,
well if you’re going to whack in 5 goals against a team, what other team than your big rivals?
Right so in the wake of the 62 million euro moves of Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to PSG, is it time for Gazidis to stop hiding behind the “We’ll be alright when FFP Kicks in” – of course it is. Will he actually stop hiding behind that excuse, of course not. He’ll probably say wait and see, but Platini won’t expel a club from his own country from the Champions League, and if he hasn’t done it to a Horrible English Club that shouldn’t be allowed to win anything according to FIFA/UEFA then the chances of it happening to a team he actually likes are pretty much nil.
Gazidis, stop living in dreamland and read the writing on the wall – and then bash Silent Stan’s head against the same wall until he realizes he can’t keep sponging money out of our club with no input whatsoever
Dude, how can you say we like it? :-( How? :pain: That’s totally hurtful. How can a grown man be forced to wear fuchsia pink from head to toe? Our GK looks like a frigging light bulb dude! Our boys look like purple zebras.
How could Nike do this to us? smh! Gibbs looked like he wanted his mummy in the picture  , the dudes are unhappy, people are laughing at us dude. What does that do to our confidence at away games? I think we should just stick to our home kit which is sweet to look at BTW.
@Mister Spruce, LoL! brilliant
Szczesny looks like a damn crayon. I feel sorry for him having to wear that monstrosity.
As a fan from the the northwest – or South Alaska as the rest of the country seems to think of us – I have no love for what NIKE does with uniforms. The new Seahawks uniforms are awful design by committee jobs and easily the worst of the new NFL uniforms, and what they do with the University of Oregon uniforms sometimes borders on criminal. If there is a switch to Adidas it can’t come too soon.
If the kit was any good you would not need to write such a long story ‘selling’ it to us…a great kit always speaks for itself.
To be honest, I hate the new home and away kits, and if the rumor Adidas will be our new kit supplier is true then I will be very happy indeed. And if that leaked picture of the design will be our new kit if we sign with Adidas then I will be even happier.
Although one thing that would make me really happy is a proper DM seeing as the M’Vila deal seems to be off (no doubt due to us not coughing up the money Rennes wanted) and a genuine replacement for RVP (as in someone world class, as Giroud no offense to him is not) we can live in hope cant we?
@George, I don’t mind the home kits at all, but the Purple kit, not feeling it.
Frankly, if we have Adidas as a new sponser, as early as next season… it would be the club SLAPPING the fans in the face AGAIN…
New Nike Arsenal kits this season… and then NEW KITS next year too?
So they can capitalize on one last season with Nike, having all the kids and fans buy the new kit, and then turn around and do it again next year?
GREED much?
Frankly, I will NEVER by any Arsenal merchandise again, until things change at the club.
Its all about how much money they can make off their fans.
I don’t care what we wear for kits… though the Adidas Maroon Away, with a gold stripe looks fabulous! (there are a number of “supposed” kit options if Adidias come in)
Yeah, a win win for the club, sell new kits this year AND next.
Get a bigger / better deal from Adidas…
mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money.
@stag133,
I do share your Cynicism I really do about the amount of money the club charges for everything but I like having the new kit each season (supporters like me are what the club lives on eh?) and I don’t like kits that look crap so I don’t buy them, sounds fair? And yes a new kit deal with Adidas offers the club the chance to make more money off having a new kit but it would also give the club a better deal than the pitiful one we have with Nike at the moment and we also get the chance to have much nicer kits. And more money from kit deals should mean more money to spend on players, or more money for the board to shove in their pockets, whichever way you look at it is fine with me…
Actually yellow & blue was only introduced as the away kit in 1969
We’ve had various shades of blue and all white as away kits prior to that with a Gold in the early 50s
You can see the whole history here:
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Arsenal/Arsenal-change-kits.html
@DaAdminGooner,
Home kit history here – http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Arsenal/Arsenal.htm
@DaAdminGooner, this is a cool link.
did not know all those details… I just remember being TOLD by a group of Arsenal Supporters that AAWAY kits are supposed to be YELLOW!
Went to an away match with the traveling supporters, who were singing…
COME ON YOU YELLOOOOOOW… (we were wearing Blue!)
@DaAdminGooner, According to that site, the yellow originated with the FA cup kit from the 50s. I would say that is far more of a tradition than the purple and black.
@seattle gooner, right.
but what will sell more with the masses?
nice piece of business, that… eh?
Yaiks..looks like from the fun fair.
Ummm.
yes. Arsenal are “supposed” to be about tradition, not street fashion…
YELLOW is there away color.
But if you’re trying to sell new kits to the kids, then sure, go for purple with black hoops!
And maybe the women will all buy the Pink Keepers kits!
I know the real supporters should all run out there and buy Buy BUY the new kits and merchandise!
Have to support the club, right? or you aren’t a “real” supporter…
What name should be put on the back of the new kit?
Can’t be the Captain, Van Persie… he’s likely leaving…
Can’t be Theo, because he could be off too…
Hmmmm. You don’t want a player who just signed, right?
Hmmm… Sagna is hurt again… ummmm.
Wait, I’ve got it…
WENGER
4
life
That would be perfect on the back of a new Purple away kit.
Brilliant. How much is the kit on the site with the lettering? 90 Quid, plus shipping?
@stag133,
Im sure they’d do a discount if you had that on the back of it…
No Walcott? Who’s that 5th down on the left then?
No RvP or Walcott in the promotional pictures…. that tells its own story.
Szczesny will get so much stick from away fans, for that kit – why have something which will deliberately get him targeted?
Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow!!!!!!!!!
Bastards!
