Arsenal Player Profile: Ryo Miyaichi

Special by Daniel Tucker

Close up? No, this isn’t a close up personal account of the life that Ryo lives, as this piece that I am about to write is all about Arsenal’s new wonder-kid – Ryo Miyaichi. There has recently been prolonged talk from Arsenal supporters stating how disappointing they have been with Arsene Wenger’s activity in the transfer market, with reserve player, Carl Jenkinson, and the highly-rated Gervinho being their only signings as far. However, Arsene Wenger could still spend around £25 million on a star player, but the best summer business for Arsenal could be sealing the work permit of Ryo Miyaichi.

After signing a  professional contract in the later stages of January, Arsene aimed to build on the club’s long-term relationship with Feyenoord, and thereby sent Ryo out on-loan to gain the experience of a footballer whilst playing the ‘right’ way in the Eredivisie. It turned out be a shrewd move by Wenger, as the youngster went on to have a successful spell at the De Kuip. He started his first game against Vitesse, with the Feyenoord manager, Mario Been, instantly showing a liking to the Japanese youngster. Ryo had made an excellent impression in his first game, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. But there was more to shout about after his quite tremendous 90 minutes; he has been named man of the match, in which was a significant prize for a player with no past experience of playing professional football.

That game was seen as the internal working model for Ryo and his adopted club, for the time-being. In other words, it means that the basis
was set, and that his standard of performances should remain high, with Feyenoord also showing faith in Ryo – a two way process. Did his performances
remain to a high level? That would be an astounding yes! Not only did Ryo turn into a star in Holland due to his tremendous talents, but he worked hard for his place in the team and has now been rewarded for his work-ethic.

He scored his first goal for Feyenoord against Heracles, with the second goal in the game also being created by him. But arguably his best, and most complete performance came at the De Kuip when Willem II visited. Not only was this yet another special performance from Ryo – scoring two goals, and having two assists to his name – but his ability to turn the match on its head was admirable (Feyenoord was a goal down before winning 6-1 quite comfortably). That is exactly what would be welcomed at Arsenal – a player who will be able to use his initiative and go on to win a game when nobody else is seemingly shining.

Enough of the facts, and on to his true ability. Did you know that the Feyenoord supporters used to call him “Ryodinho” with the “inho” most likely coming from a Brazilian background, hence being a compliment? Ryo’s skills dazzled in Holland, and so did his pace. He isn’t the type of player who’ll need to perform several movements with his feet (“flip-flap” etc) to beat his man. Ryo has the raw ability to beat his man with a quick turn of pace and drive down the line. His tendency to stay out on the touchline, will add a new dimension of width tothe Arsenal attack, which is a must need along with his pace.

Another convincing attribute of Ryo is his capability of turning up in the right place at the right time – getting into goal-scoring positions. Some
people say that it is just natural, but I beg to differ. It’s all about the movement of a player and interpreting when to get into the right positions when needed.  Finally, to end his great attacking potential, I’d also like to add in that Ryo Miyaichi’s delivery is top notch, and he can deliver them in various styles – such as whipping the ball in at head height, floating it in, and even producing a hard low cross which can be difficult to execute. Add his attacking attributes together, and it seems as if Arsenal have one pure offensive talent on their hands.

Now to his defensive game? An offensive player with a defensive game? What is going on here? Well, Ryo may be as skillful and delightful to watch as many of the world’s best players, but his defensive work needs to be appreciated. Throughout his successful spell at Feyenoord, it became apparent to the audience watching that Ryo had true grit. He would lose the ball up the field, and then chase the opponent until he had got the ball back in his
possession again. Its similar to Lionel Messi. An offensive player who has just scored 50+ goals a season , and looking for more, loses the ball, and chases down the opposing attacker as he attempts to get the ball back. It’s terrific work, and his non-lazy approach will be great to see at the
Emirates.

Anything he could improve on? In my personally opinion, the only flaw that Ryo has is that his final ball can be inconsistent. Not to a great extent, but inconsistent nonetheless. There are times where he can put in sumptuous balls with the strikers licking their lips, but there were quite a
few times this season where the ball didn’t reach its target, and I’m certain that the coaches at Arsenal will groom him well in this area.

Overall, Ryo can become a special, special player, capable of reaching the great heights of football – perhaps even on the world stage. He has the talent and effort to do so, and I’m more than sure that he’ll become vital to Arsenal sooner rather than later. Ryo is only 18 years of age, and is still rather raw, but Arsenal can take advantage over his rawness and let the hungry youngster run riot in the Premier League. A work permit is still a problem, but I believe that his talent should do all the talking in welcoming him to English football.

Seeing on Twitter that Denilson may be loaned out to Sao Paulo? Good news for sure but I want a permanent deal not a loan. Hopefully the loan does not mean Arsenal are on the hook for some of the salary.

OK, so Liverpool sign Doni … from Roma.

Now they have 2 No.1 keepers, and we have NONE.

    yeah. AKB. no doubt.

    1. Vierra was offered a coaching position at Arsenal. However, at the time he was seriously considering trying to play another season and he was going to do that at City. When he decided to retire City simply offered him a LOT of money to stay on in the role he is.

    2. Everyone, cool your jets with the profanity. If I continue to see it I will start deleting posts. A little is okay but when it is in every comment it is tiresome and frankly not something I want on a consistent basis on my blog. – Thank you the management.

@DaAdminGooner, DAG. Vieira would come to Arsenal in a second, rather than stay at City. I really doubt we offered him the opportunity to come to Arsenal and coach in any capacity.

      • DaAdminGooner 15 July, 2011 at 13:51 Log in to Reply

        @stag133,

I can absolutely confirm that he was offered the opportunity to come to Arsenal. Nuff said.

        • stag133 15 July, 2011 at 16:51

          @DaAdminGooner, LOL
you were there? or you spoke to Arsene?
Not to disrespect your “moles”… but I highly doubt we offered him a position, and City did, and he chose City over us…

        • DaAdminGooner 15 July, 2011 at 16:56

          @stag133,

I will tell you my mole works for Arsenal. He was offered a position. He first wanted to see if he could play again. He didn’t get any feelers to play. By the time he was ready to call it quits City had offered him the job with way more money than Arsenal were willing to pay.

Paddy’s an Arsenal legend no doubt. But in this case he went for the money.

Another masterpiece from the AT comments:

    —————————————————————————————

    Wenger OUT.
He’s like a fucking drug addict. ‘One more hit, please just one more’
He told Cesc last summer ‘gimme one more year’.
He gave him Shitachi, Chamakh and Koscielny, three tremendously garbage players.
Now with Nasri he is at it again ‘one more year’. This Nasri situation is ludicrous and the worst thing that could happen is him going to Man U on a freebie, that would be one of Wenger’s 78 sackable offences he has committed in the past year alone (along with losing to Spuds 2-3, 4-4 NewcAastle, saying he’d accept second place for the next twenty years, giving Eboue a new contract).

I am thrilled because even discussing being willing to forego a £25 million transfer fee, is ultimate proof to the retard AKBs out there that Wenger has had money all along. Any manager chucking a £25 mil fee is
    a) A shit economist
    b) Idiotic.

Wenger is both. He runs a false economy which gives the Diabys and Eboues £60k a week!
I could not believe when I read that Modric was on £35k a week at Spuds AND they have him on a five year deal! Now THAT is how you do business! Armand Traore and Fabianski earn more than Mordic. There you go, Arsene Knows (nothing).

Wenger’s shocking management has come full circle and I think AT has touched on something: I reckon even AW knows this is his last season. So what does he give a shit if Nasri fucks off on a free? It’s all about his last chance saloon to indulge himself in project youth, and ‘no one is leaving until I can have one last go at getting my ego right’.

After he fails again, his position will be untenable and he’ll piss off to PSG, who are now cash-rich.

Arsenal fans need a lesson for the future here after Wenger completes our SEVENTH trophyless year, and confirms our status as a joke laughing stock of a club:

NEVER EVER LET ANY MANAGER HAVE AS MUCH POWER AS THIS AGAIN.
Scrutinise and question EVERYTHING. NEVER ACCEPT SECOND BEST. Stop making excuses.

The easily pleased nature of Arsenal sheep fans has resulted in seven wasted years. With players who could have been club legends all gone.

Vieira took up a club position with Citeh today. He should be at Arsenal, he’d be brilliant. Of course, he had talks with the club but could you ever see Wenger sanctioning someone with a mind of their own questioning his decisions?

    Nope. Me neither.

    WENGER OUT.

    ———————————————————————————

Absolutely nothing to add here. My sentiments exactly.

The only shocker for me is that Modric is earning HALF of the wage that Diaby, Denilson, Eboue, Almunia, Fabianski, Walcott are ON!!! And he still has FOUR years on his contract!!

AKBs … come out and spin that one off for us!

    • stag133 15 July, 2011 at 11:26 Log in to Reply

@Fred, FRED. I’m already really down at the prospects of this coming season, but you are DEPRESSING me even more.

How can Arsenal be overpaying salaries by that much? The Totts are turning down 30 Milll or MORE for Modric, and he’s on 35K a week?

I can not possibly fathom how we could go into this season without a 2 defenders coming in… and possibly 2 or 3 others when we lose Cesc and/or Nasri.

If that happens, I simply will NOT watch Arsenal matches…

I truly believe if something like that occurs, the uproar and outcry by the fans will be MASSIVE… we are not far from this thing blowing up, fans rising up (in England, not Malaysia)… and just going crazy on the club and Wenger.

Please tell me WHY we wouldn’t go in for Scott Parker at short money, or take him on loan for a year?
Shay Given is going to VILLA, for 7 Mill? We were TRYING to get this guy last year… why not NOW? We have NO proven No.1 Keeper AGAIN…
WHEN is proper CB coming in? Cahill? Samba? was that a complete smoke screen?

Fool me once, shame on you… Fool me for 6 straight years, shame on all the idiot followers who say AKB. :skeleton:

      • Fred 15 July, 2011 at 11:56 Log in to Reply

        @stag133,

Don’t you get it? There will be no “uproar” or “outcry” from the majority of fans because the majority are still sheep who worship Wenger and are life-long, card carrying AKBs.

They have more loyalty to him than Libyan government workers to Gadhafi.

So forget the fans doing anything or putting any sort of pressure on the club.

Even if we fall out of the top four and finish 10th whilst losing all our top players, most will just blame it on injuries, “biased” referees, Fabregas being a “traitor”, bad luck and other teams playing long-balls too much.

And they will continue singing the Wenger song proudly. Even after he has buggered off to PSG.

        • stag133 15 July, 2011 at 13:35

@Fred, I don’t totally agree Fred, I know a good number of London Gooners, and their mood is UGLY… I think there is a growing contingent of disenchanted Arsenal fans, and the response to the lap of (dis)honor at seasons end last year… and the mood on blogs, etc… is NOT pretty…

        • DaAdminGooner 15 July, 2011 at 13:59

          @stag133,

Actually I am going to agree with Fred on this. There is still a very large portion of Arsenal Suporters who are still not seeing the issues that exist at the club. I wish there was a way to share my twitter transcripts from yesterday with you. You’d be gobsmacked.

Look we all know I am for giving Wenger another year to sort things out however, I am not blind to the issues and I readily accept they exist.

I posed three statements on twitter yesterday:

          1. Stan is NOT the man for Arsenal and will not provide a vision for this team. We remain at the status quo.

          2. I support Wenger to fix the issues however, if he fails to sign at least one CB I will call him and Ivan a liar and call for his head immediately.

          3. Wenger had better have a plan and inside knowledge on Nasri because letting him go on free next season is about as a thing as I have heard any manager do.

The response I got was just amazing. But I will tell you what I suspect. The most ardent and hard core Wenger and the team can do no wrong supporters have a very narrow frame of reference, they are usually younger and this is the only version of the team they have really known.

Most older fans who have a longer time frame – tend to either be pragmatic about Wenger or absolutely die hard – get the coot out. Right now the younger Wenger Desciples and pragmatists lead the way.

When the pragmatists start leaning the way of the Wenger Must go brigade. That is when the tide will truly turn for change.

        • ChicagoGooner 15 July, 2011 at 20:33

Not to mention bad pitches, critical fans, the fixture list, the impossibility of winning the EPL with Fabregas, teams being too physical, and teams who unfairly spend more money than us.

The sad thing is the 5 excuses you listed and the 6 I listed have all been used by Arsenal supporters numerous times, and 9 of the 11 have been used by Wenger repeatedly.

        • ChicagoGooner 15 July, 2011 at 20:35

When you go to all the AKB blogs, the discussion is completely like NOTHING bad happened last season.

All the CLOWNS there are already excited about the 4-0 win against a Malaysian team that probably compares unfavorably to some college girls teams.

They are commenting about how Squillaci “looks really good and commanding” and how Jenkinson is ready to push for Sagna’s spot. And how Vela was “impressive” (because of a chipped goal!!!) and how Traore is “really solid and we dont need anybody new at LB”.

With delusional FUCKTARDS like this, there is absolutely no surprise why Wenger continues to act like the African Dictator that he is. The LOYAL SHEEP base is still the plurality at Arsenal so the madness will continue.

Even when we crash out of Top Four and lose all our players, these idiots will still sing the atrocious Wenger song.

  8. Fred 15 July, 2011 at 04:58 Log in to Reply

Wenger has pretty much implied that he is buying NO defenders or DM this summer! Color me shocked!!!

This is the same clown who accurately pinpointed the need for defensive reinforcements late in May, when we were conceding goals when put under minimal pressure.

Now the French Fool is telling us all is rosy with our defense and defensive midfield. He claims the return of Vermaelen should solve all our defensive problems – even though, Vermaelen played a full season and we conceded just as many goals in that season!!!!

So we are bringing in NOBODY in defense or DM, we have the EXACT same coaches as last season (and they are not going to change ANYTHING in their methods) ….

Where are all the AKBs to defend their master??

Come on out guys, spin this for us!

PS: When Wenger said, one or two signings, he was being extremely serious. Gervinho is ONE of those “one or two signings”. And he is a direct replacement for Nasri.

The PARASITE sells Nasri for 22 M and brings in Forehead Gervinho (who would bugger off for 2 months in January) for 11 M. PROFIT.

The PARASITE sells Clichy and brings in NOBODY. PROFIT.

And when we finally sell Fabregas for 35 M or whatever, Ramsey will be the successor and so we”ll buy NOBODY.
    BIG PROFIT.

All in all, we are going to see at least 50 Million pounds of profit for the board and Wenger THIS SUMMER. Yet some AKBs claim we cant compete because of money. While we are making mountains of cash from TRANSFERS alone!!!!

In May, even the most head in sand AKB would never have guessed this. LOL.

PSS: To make everything even worse, ALL the worst players will remain other than Bendtner and Almunia. Bartley and Landsbury will NOT get any chances because of Squillaci, Diaby and Denilshit.

The BEST Arsenal Midfielder I ever saw play… PATRICK VIEIRA has retired at age 35.

Why Arsene didn’t bring him on board to his coaching staff (as was rumored)… I have no idea… but he definitely could show/explain a few things about grit/passion/determination… to our young midfielders… thats for sure.

He’s coaching in some capacity for ManCity.

I think ARSENAL should have a testimonial for him!
(but I think you have to play like 10 years for the team?)

Anyway…. just wanted to wish Paddy good luck in his post playing day endeavors…. the player and man were IMMENSE at Arsenal… his last kick of a ball in the Arsenal kit… is still responsible for our last trophy.

    GOOD LUCK PV4.

“And Arsene CRYING about ManCity’s stadium rights… again… SHUT THE FECK UP, and cater to your OWN ISSUES. Geezus.”

Uh, this IS Arsenal’s issue…..If there are no “Financial Fair Play” rules in play, the balanced budget policies of the past decade go straight out the window. Unfortunately, given what’s gone down at FIFA (WCs going to Russia and Qatar) I would expect that it doesn’t take that many millions to buy off a few UEFA officials to turn a blind eye…..

Of course, Money doesn’t matter, I’ve been told, which is why Chelsea won exactly how many league titles before Abramovich came to town or ManCity played in exactly how many Champions Leagues?…..

The upshot to all this is that it appears you do not become a “Big” club by earning it, only by funding it. But maybe this is the Arsenal plan and, as I suggested the other day, Kronke and the current board (with AW in cahoots) are just holding the fort for another year before selling out to Usmanov/Dein (perhaps renaming the stadium “Gazprom Green”…..) At that point maybe WE”LL offer the whole team a double pay raise (i.e., to keep Nasri and everybody else happy) AND enter the big transfer sweepstakes to buy the new Rosicky (Luka Modric) or the new John Terry (Gary Cahill) for 20-40 Million pounds apiece…..This summer I think we’re still hunting for Koscielnys and Gervinhos (i.e., French bargains….) which WILL NOT make anybody (who already despises the Arsenel) the least bit happy….

On a happier note (for some), some football got played yesterday…..

How exactly is anything ManCity or United or Chelsea do… OUR ISSUE?
We can ONLY control Arsenal FC… and have a say in what we do, or say… one way or the other.

The rules are made to be broken, or obscured, or to find away around them.
We’re crying about ManCity and Chelsea’s money?
Do you think maybe Bolton or Stoke would say perhaps that… why the feck is Arsenal complaining about MONEY? we have more money and are able to attract / buy more players, talent, training, etc… than 99 % of all football teams in England…
but we’re bitching because ManCity has more money, and they are trying to use it to get into the “TOP 4” which is NEVER supposed to be threatened?
      that’s bullshit in my eyes…

Why do you keep on repeating this mantra?

As I have asked you several times, what does what Man City and Chelsea spend have to do with Arsenal buying a CB or DM???

Or are those clubs also going in for Cahill, Samba, Parker, Oxlade, etc??

If we sold all our junk players we could get 30 million. Add that to the 40 million the club says it has and that is already 70 million.

Only one or two clubs in the entire world are going to spend up to that amount this summer.

So stop WHINING about money. The argument is a false one.

    oh yeah.
Another day… and more NOTHING at Arsenal.
Oh Barcelona is just pounding Wenger about Cesc, and Wenger is all in a fit… boo hooo…. like you don’t know this is what Barca do? it happened all last Summer. Get over it.

And Arsene CRYING about ManCity’s stadium rights… again… SHUT THE FECK UP, and cater to your OWN ISSUES. Geezus.

Meanwhile, Liverpool improved AGAIN… Stewart Downing… another very good, young British player… yeah, they aren’t helping themselves? right? got it.

United are allegedly set to sign Snejder for 38 Mill.
Hmmm. So they aren’t improving in the off-season either?
    REALLY?

    we have Jenkinson and Gervinho.
Ummmm we have a fucking LONG WAY to go.

Anybody think Cesc’s going to stay?
    really?
    I highly doubt it.

How about Scott Parker on loan for the season? how does that hurt us in any respect?
How about Gary Cahill… NOW… instead of fucking around?

Tiring of Arsenal FC… and we are only 1 month from the start of the season… and we are in some real trouble.

on the positive side… Denilson got subbed after 20 minutes and threw a hissy fit… I guess he learns that from Wenger.

Ryo Miyachi: Supremely talented I’m sure, but why do we need another small, mobile, 18-year old attacker who is adept at passing?

As for Xavi, he can go f**k himself. Suffering? As Stag said, Cesc is a world-famous millionaire who is paid lavishly to do a job most people would do for free. Let’s ship Xavi off to Burundi (lowest per capita GDP of any country) and then let him talk about “suffering”.

Going back to the discussion on the previous thread, I too have been watching bits and pieces of the Women’s WC, as well as the Copa America (on the Spanish channel). The Women’s WC has been the more interesting of the two so far.

Supposedly the Brazilian fans at the Copa were chanting “we want Marta” towards the end of their 2-2 draw with Paraguay. It’s not been too good for them so far… CK what’s up with Brazil? They’re your team, no?

Overall though the Copa has been a bit underwhelming, especially for a tourney in which 7 off 12 teams were at the WC last year. It also shows how far the US really is from the elite level. We got rocked by Mexico in the Gold Cup final and now Mexico- the N. American champs- are getting manhandled in the group stage at the S. American champs.

But for some reason they didn’t take Chicarito to the Copa. All I can imagine is pressure from Man U? But if I were the Mexican FA I’d tell them to f**k off, we’re taking him, just like the rest of our players. If Messi can take time away from his club to go this tourney, then so can Chicharito.

@ChicagoGooner, Oh, I don’t think the US National team is doing too badly… they can compete against ANYONE on a given day.
Moderate success at the WC is a big acheivement.

The Women’s WC is pretty decent. US taking down France right now, and on its way to the WC Finals!
      woot woot!

      @ChicagoGooner,

      Re Mexico:
      1) 5 players out because of doping pre Gold Cup
      2) 8 players sent home from Copa for whoring
      3) Marquez is the only over 23 player in squad
      4) None of their established foreign players were included

Losing 1-0 to full strength SA teams with basically a 3rd string team is not too bad.

      Re Brazil:
They are really trying to peak for 2014 WC at home and blooding new players with a new system. They are a little light in the back since Lucio is getting up in years and they lack a true poacher/striker in the mold of Ronaldo, Romario, Adriano, etc.

Neymar is far from the complete player at this time, Robinho is really a winger and they are playing Pato as a target man which is not his forte. They are blooding other guys like Ganzo who is also not quite ready yet.

Having said that, if they don’t find a true target man they will play good futbol as usual but will fall short in 2012 on their home soil. At that point, there will be a bloody revolution, especially if Messi gets on track at the international level and their dreaded foes, Argentina, takes it all.

well, on the official Barcelona website…
Xavi says the Cesc is SUFFERING, because he wants to leave Arsenal!

I certainly don’t want our Captain to “suffer” at Arsenal… I mean, its tough with the wage he makes and the adoring fans, and living in London and all that…

Why not take the 35 Million and just be done with it… end the suffering … we don’t want a suffering leader for another season…
    right?

I don’t want Nasri to suffer at all either… let’s ask him how he’s feeling too…
