YAMACast S2E14: the one after Liverpool and before Bayern at the Emirates

It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these. The road as they say is filled with the best intentions and sadly as much as we wanted to get more of these out at the turn of the year, we couldn’t.

There are a myriad of other podcasts I am sure that you enjoy, from Arseblog to Arsenal America, Goonersphere and the Bergkamp Wonderland. There is enough podcasting content to keep you all happy – at least I hope so.

Still, though, we’re back and I think we’re back in a big way with this week’s guests.

We start off the podcast with none other than the Arseblog himself. It seems weird mentioning someone like Andrew by the name of his blog but Blogs is known all over in that way and its how we know him as well. Andrew, hadn’t been on the podcast since last season so we spent some time talking about our overall impressions of Arsenal through the season especially in light of the recent trials and tribulations.

While the lows of Villa, City and Liverpool are certainly pronounced, in view of an entire season, they seem blips more than large scale issues. Of course each pitfall is only remembered in context to how the team responds and for the most part this season, the team has responded very well after it has had problems.

After Villa, they went on a tear to carry them to the top of the table. After the drubbing to City, they course corrected by drawing to Chelsea and then another consistent run that kept them on top. Now after the walloping that was the loss to Liverpool, Arsenal seem to be following a similar pattern. They drew to United (a disappointment to be sure since they really should’ve taken points) and they won against Liverpool again to move to the Quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Andrew and I look at this in detail and we give a nod to Wednesday’s big fixture against Bayern Munich.

After we let Andrew off the hook, I spent time with two great pundits who spend an awful lot of time covering the Bundesliga. First, back almost a year to day later is Bundesliga.com’s James Thorogood (@JMThorogood). James and I look at the upcoming Champion’s League tie and what can Arsenal do to win at the Emirates. James gives some great insight on one perceived weakness and not to give it away but it means Ox has to play out wide.

As for my final guest, its ESPN’s Janusz Michallik (@JanuszESPN). Janusz is an ex-US International by way of Poland who covers most of the major leagues for ESPN, Fox Soccer, Fox Sports and Bleacher Report. Like James he gives us his thoughts on the Bayern visit to the Emirates and is maybe a little less diplomatic in his thoughts than James was.

All the interviews were great and we were happy to have such great guests on this week.

As always we are grateful for your support of the podcast.

    Off Topic.
But it struck me today, as Ibra tears apart Leverkusen… that I used to have debates
on this site (or Arsenal America) about who was better, Zlatan or Eto’o…
and just how wide a gap there is between the players now, and even in the last 2 or 3 years.

Eto’o is just another guy… I wouldn’t take him for free at the moment for the Arsenal, and Zlat might be the best striker in the world… not to mention he sets people up, and gets a lot of assists as well!

He’d have been amazing at Arsenal…

    Massive match tomorrow…
Need to be 0-0 or a win, for us to have any real chance at getting by the world’s current best team…
Football is a funny game… hoping for a funny result.

I bet Arsenal fans are hoping for another lucky undeserved 2-1 win tonight eh!?.

Sometimes luck is needed to win some things. Ask Liverpool how lucky they were in their Champion’s League win. Or maybe you should ask Chelsea from 2012.
